European Court of Justice

European Court of Justice has always been one of the most important courts of European legal chain. It is the protector of the legal system that is wanted to be created by European Union with it’s supremacy. It has a key role to resolve the disputes in not just in European Union but also in European Economic Area. This year at Themis Court Simulations, we are welcoming you from European Court of Justice, Luxembourg. During the simulation, ECJ will solve a case between the Netherlands and France which includes Freddie Heineken’s kidnap, the chairman of the executive board of Heineken International. Freddie Heineken had kidnapped by 4 Dutch men and 2 of them crossed the border of France before Dutch national court’s arrest warrant. According to European Arrest Warrant, France has claimed authority to judge the kidnappers. As Freddie Heineken is the victim part of the case, situation gets more and more complicated; even mutual island of the Netherlands and France called Saint Martin (Sint Marteen) becomes huge part of the dispute.
